The 10 biggest wedding dress trends for 2021, according to an expert - Insider - INSIDER
The rise of the less-formal "microwedding dress" is continuing into 2021.
Many couples are continuing to opt for microweddings, which The Knot defines as a wedding that has 50 or fewer guests.
This has led brides to choose more casual wedding dresses, Roberta Correia, the editorial director for Brides, told Insider.
Correia said that the "microwedding dress" is similar to some brides' "second dress" — or a less-formal look that they change into after their ceremony.
"Now we're finding that they're wearing something for the microwedding or Zoom wedding and then keeping the big ball gown for when we can all celebrate properly together later on," she added.
Some online retailers, like Lulus, have started selling wedding dresses in recent months, making it accessible for brides to find a laid-back gown for their smaller ceremonies.
For instance, the This Is Real Love dress from Lulus is $98.

How to dress for skiing - Chicago Tribune

If you’re new to downhill skiing, a helmet is a must-have accessory to protect your head from impact. For cross-country skiing, you may not feel the need to wear a helmet, so you’ll want a hat or beanie to protect your head and ears. You may want a ski mask or balaclava for extreme conditions, which covers your face to protect against the cold and wind.

The length of a skirt does not make a woman more available to men - Highlander Newspaper
Post Views: 310
Schools have notoriously enforced dress codes for years and have defended it with the belief that they prevent the sexualization of women. However, in reality, dress codes promote the endless cycle of men perceiving women as sexual objects. The criticism dress codes place on women are learned by boys and girls and turn into negative dynamics between men and women in adulthood. To stop this vicious cycle, schools must abolish dress codes and re-educate young boys in order to stop the sexual objectification of women once and for all.
Dress codes were invented in 1969 to prevent students’ expression, and schools have since used them as permission to pass judgment off women. While schools claim that dress codes are for both boys and girls, girls are most often the ones that are punished for so-called violations. This is because dress codes have been designed to continue misogyny by forcing girls to dress in a more conservative style and judge girls who don’t. Furthermore, they determine whether a girl is seen as promiscuous or not. And if a girl was to be classified as such, it welcomes unwarranted criticism from school teachers and administrators. Consequently, this criticism wrongly teaches girls that they should always cover-up to be treated with respect or to be taken seriously.
It is unbelievable that young women should have to bear the burden of covering up throughout their youth, but this is sadly the reality if no change is made. The morals dress codes teach are taken in by male students whose actions thereon are motivated by it. Young boys witness the judgments passed on the attire of female students, erroneously coming to understand that if a girl dresses “provocatively,” then she is willing to be a sexual object for their pleasure and that all women should be judged based upon this assumption. Consequently, women struggle to be seen apart from this perception because the “provocative look” is subjective to the male gaze.
Women also absorb the toxic standards of dress codes and feed into the belief men have. This can be seen when women judge other women on the basis of their attire, assuming that these women want men to notice them. This popularly occurs on social media but has also occurred on college campuses. In one incident at the University of Notre Dame, a mother of a student publicly criticized a group of female students for wearing leggings during an on-campus Mass. The woman claimed that looking at the women sexually was “unavoidable” and would likely cause a man to lose control. Her solution to this was to cover up the women to protect the men around. The type of behavior this mother expressed heightens the issue women face as they are seen as sexual objects not only by men but by other women too.
To stop the objectification of women and to prevent it from continuing in future generations, schools must abolish dress codes altogether. This would also stop the absorption of the toxic standards dress codes push onto young students. If this were done, future adult women will no longer have the burden of being seen as sexual objects on the basis of their clothes.
Schools should also have students and educators learn about gender equality to teach them that objectifying women is not acceptable in any circumstance. Lectures like this must start at a young age because children are very impressionable and are at risk of picking up behaviors that develop disastrously. Such lessons will re-educate young boys and teach them not to view women as sexual objects. Children will be able to learn self-control and respect for others from a young age. This will lead both men and women to champion feminism, helping develop equality. It will also prevent the re-creation of dress codes in the future and would also hopefully prevent the creation of any sexist rules in the future.
Erasing dress codes would begin to improve the misogynistic rules society has. Furthermore, the erasure of dress codes will also eventually push for change in other areas because men and women would have been taught that passing judgment of women based on sexist ideas is problematic from a young age. However, none of this can occur until schools stop using dress codes and begin to change the perception they have promoted for women.

Dillard’s Unveils Exclusive Dress Line - Forbes

ASSOCIATED PRESS
Let’s face it. Shopping is entertainment for many customers. In that spirit, it is no surprise that Dillard’s fashion management unveiled an exclusive dress collection from New York designers Alex and Michael Toccin. The husband-and-wife team designed a new brand line, LTD, which will be sold initially only in about 100 of the 279 Dillard’s stores.
The styles were inspired by the 1960s and 1990. They are especially youthful, come in vibrant colors, and have a sense of joy according to one observer. LTD’s retail price range is from $130 to $229, with an average price of $199. The look is said to appeal to all ages, and the line will be available in sizes 0 to 14.
Alexandra Dillard, vice president of merchandising said, “we have not seen a lot of newness, brands or lines emerge in the market for quite some time, and it’s exciting to see someone stepping out and trying something new and different.” She added, “I love what they are doing with their line,” according to WWD.
I agree that during the pandemic caused by COVID-19 most retailers have tried to keep a lid on new fashion brands and focused on tight inventory control. The customer is loath to shop in shopping centers and in stores. She is afraid to catch a virus, and as a result stores have been ultra-conservative when it comes to adding new fashion lines. Yet, the new offerings lift Dillard’s fashion image and give customers a reason to come shop and find something fresh. A recent survey says that 51% of the customers miss “going shopping” as a way to socialize, so the opportunity to find new styles may encourage customers to do socialize in this way again.
The counter-point is that we are seeing a decline of mall shopping. According to a report by Future Commerce, 75% of consumers would rather interact with people in a park than in a mall. That report sends a terrible warning, but I have been assured that mall operators have added better ventilation and improved sanitation in all shopping centers to ensure compliance with local ordinances. Now, customers must be convinced that such efforts make a mall visit safe and worth doing. New offerings will certainly add enticement. However, young brands often need time to develop their own following, as management of Dillard’s will again find out.
MORE FOR YOU
The LTD dress collection is a new line by the Toccins who have been in the fashion business for about 10 years. Michael Toccin worked for Oscar de la Renta, Zac Posen, and KaufmanFranco while Alex Toccin worked for Ralph Lauren and Theory after both graduated from Parsons School of Design. Together, they created a digital site, Styles by T and, then in September 2019 created Toccin NY. Their Toccin brand dress collection is in Saks Fifth Ave. and Neiman Marcus. It is also in smaller specialty stores; the price range for these dresses is from $325 to $695.
The Toccins say they will deliver 6 to 8 new styles every month for 10 months for Dillard’s. That is good; customers can come to Dillard’s stores every month to see “what is new” and also possibly pick up some markdowns from a previous period. By the way, I found out that LTD stands for the Toccin’s daughter, Liv Dakota Toccin.
In this stressful year, I think that Dillard’s management made a bold move that will have wide customer appeal. We will be watching the results. Dillard’s will announce their year-end sales and earnings results at the end of February.
