Kim Kardashian West Tests the Limits of the Vatican Dress Code - The Cut

talu.indah.link

Kim Kardashian West visited the Vatican today and unsurprisingly did not follow the dress code. The guidelines for proper attire at the home of the pope are notoriously strict, with visitors prohibited from wearing clothing that exposes their knees, shoulders, or chest.

Naturally, Kardashian West showed up at the headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church in a flimsy white lace dress that exposed her shoulders and featured cutouts around her waist (which, you have to hand it to her, does seem like a loophole in the rules). She also pushed the church’s boundaries by wearing white and lace, which, while no longer prohibited, is traditionally saved for Catholic royalty.

It appears the church did not make an exception to the rules for Kardashian West. She covered up in a long black leather jacket before entering the Sistine Chapel and was reportedly able to enjoy a private two-hour tour with Kate Moss and her daughter, Lila Grace. For the occasion, Moss chose a knee-length dress topped with a buttoned-up silk black blouse, while her daughter wore a long dress and fitted black blazer. Why Kardashian West and Moss are hanging out in Rome, we don’t know, but supposedly the two have been friends for “several years” after meeting at designer Riccardo Tisci’s birthday party. Though clearly the pair didn’t exchange a “What are you wearing?” text.

We adore lace. It’s obviously great for fancy occasions, but we always love working it into less dressed-up looks as well. It’s especially wonderful during the summer, whether it’s part of a cover-up, a top or maybe a long dress!

Paris Hilton recently inspired Us with her own lace dress look as she strolled through downtown Manhattan with sister Nicky Hilton, taking photos with fans. She wore a beautiful white lace dress with short sleeves and a V-neckline. In another context, this dress could’ve looked ultra-fancy and formal, but Paris made it work for a city-chic look with her studded heels and cat-eye sunglasses. We wanted a similar look for ourselves!

This similar style we found on Amazon happens to be a bestseller with tons of reviews. We were so relieved to find sizes still in stock! Like Hilton’s, this is a white lace dress with short sleeves and a V-neckline, and we can see it working for a variety of occasions.

This dress has a sheer crochet lace layer over a simple white base, going totally sheer for the short sleeves and hem — which both have a soft scalloped trim. Another reason why we love that this dress has sleeves is that it means it’s bra-friendly, so you don’t have to go strapless or even backless!

Grab a cute straw bag or maybe a wide brim sun hat to turn this dress into a beach vacation essential, or wear it with some open-toe heels for a nice dinner date. This is obviously such a great pick for future brides as well, whether for an engagement shoot, a bridal shower, or, as multiple reviews have done, for wearing to the wedding itself. Add on a flower crown or veil and the right pair of shoes and boom — gorgeous bridal look. Imagine how shocked people will be when you tell them your dress was under $50!

This piece also comes in a wine red, purple, pink and grey, and if you explore the Amazon page, you’ll find even more variations with different types of designs. Go take a look and get your closet ready for an upgrade!

OSHKOSH, Wis.(WFRV)-The Winnebago County Republican Party is facing backlash after someone posted a meme to their official Facebook page, titled "warning signs of white supremacy." The post drew hundreds of comments and shares.

The original post on June 28th with an unidentified white man with the list of seven warning signs included "full time employment, literacy, and good credit rating." Republican Chairman Ed Hudak declined our request for an interview, but did tell Local 5's Eric Richards the controversy is media driven. "This was a satire post in response to critical race theory," said Hudak. Winnebago County Executive Jon Doemel responded in the comments saying "this is unacceptable, there are ways to discuss the issues and this is not one of them."

OPINION: How to dress post-pandemic? Just do you. - Atlanta Journal Constitution

talu.indah.link

The pandemic offered an opportunity for the fashion industry to reset itself, but instead of catering to the sweatsuit-wearing masses, brands are offering something more optimistic. If the most recent reports from virtual runways are any indication, consumers can look forward to either jumping full on into sequins and tulle and dressing as if life is a party every day or making a slower transition back into the world with a sort of hybridized clothing that can go from dressy to messy.

Fashion experts have attempted to weigh in on the future by looking to the past for clues about how the fashion pendulum might swing post-pandemic. But the twist of 2020 — the start of an era that has already seen the fashion industry struggling to assert its influence and tastes — is that maybe it no longer matters what the experts think.

Sometime mid-lockdown in August 2020, R.S. Williams of LaGrange was forced to stop exercising after injuring her sacroiliac joint running and attempting to do a Steven Seagal-style split. Exercise had been her outlet for ensuring her mental health through the pandemic, she said, and when she lost it, she needed a replacement.

Williams has worn a lot of hats in her careers as an actor, writer, exotic dancer and teacher. She has also worn a lot of outfits, so she decided to ditch the workout gear and dig into her closet.

The first outfit, a gold sequined skirt with a slit up the leg from Sears and a charcoal gray T-shirt with area code 985 (southeastern Louisiana), was the pick me up she needed to run errands. She looked so good, she snapped a selfie and posted it on social media. It quickly racked up hundreds of likes.

Suddenly she was feeling better. She followed with more outfits — a leopard print shirt, some faux leather leggings, a shirt with giant navy polka dots. Sometimes the outfits made sense; sometimes they looked insane.

R.S. Williams of LaGrange explored her closet during the pandemic, putting together a series of outfits that she says helped her maintain her mental health. As the world reopens, she plans to continue dressing for herself instead of worrying so much about what other people think.

R.S. Williams of LaGrange explored her closet during the pandemic, putting together a series of outfits that she says helped her maintain her mental health. As the world reopens, she plans to continue dressing for herself instead of worrying so much about what other people think.

Friends told her they hadn’t laughed so hard since the lockdown began. “People were howling,” said Williams, 47. Williams kept it up. On Mother’s Day, she asked her mom to write a list of fashion don’ts, and Williams proceeded to put together an outfit that included almost everything on that list.

For Williams, this new process of getting dressed was as performative as it was transformative.

“Even if no one says anything to me about my outfits, I feel like a million dollars,” she said. “When you are from a small Southern town, you have to think about what everybody likes and what is proper. I don’t give a damn. We need a little levity here.”

On a trip to Pine Mountain, she wore one of her most radical outfits — a gold torpedo bustier with gold leggings and gold shoes. She jumped out of her borrowed Jaguar XJR to go to the ATM and watched as every jaw in sight went slack.

When she wore this solid gold outfit in Pine Mountain, R.S. Williams of LaGrange said everyone stared. Sometimes people love her outfits, sometimes they don't but she has decided it's time to stop worrying about how others view her fashion choices.

The whole experience or experiment has been freeing, she said, a reminder of the girl she was in the mid-1980s growing up in the small town of Franklin, Georgia and smearing on black lipstick before school.

Wearing her own carefully curated outfits has also reminded Williams of the care that others put into choosing their clothing as well. When she spied a young girl about 11 years old walking through Kroger with an older woman, Williams felt compelled to tell the girl how much she liked her outfit of moto pants, ankle boots and a top with a white, black and chrome yellow chevron pattern.

When the girl was almost out of earshot, Williams heard her say to her elderly guardian, “See, I told you.”

“That was the kind of validation I needed as a young girl,” Williams said.

ExploreStaying home redefines self-care

Through Williams, and countless other fashion mavericks scattered across the metro area, the people have spoken. And they are saying something we have been attempting to speak for quite some time — that we are ready to let go of conventions.

For some of us, getting dressed post-pandemic will mean continuing the parade of elastic, spandex, muumuus and gym shoes. For others, it will mean stepping into Tuesday morning in our home offices wearing stilettos and skirts.

Whichever way you decide to play it, the aftertime seems like the perfect opportunity to follow Williams’ lead and declare our independence — at least in matters of fashion.

Zendaya stuns at BET Awards in the same dress Beyoncé wore in 2003: See her head-turning tribute - USA TODAY

The BET Awards included tributes to Kobe Bryant and Little Richard, plus Beyoncé received a Humanitarian award from former first lady Michelle Obama. USA TODAY

From Bey to Z, the BET Awards featured a fashion moment that linked one icon to another.

Actress Zendaya, 24, stepped out Sunday to the award show in a sheer purple dress with neon green stripes that bore a striking resemblance to the Versace one Beyoncé wore to perform for the first time at the BET Awards in 2003. Beyoncé performed "Crazy in Love," her first breakout hit as a solo artist.

Zendaya gave a nod to the performance on Instagram with a series of posts. In one picture from her home photoshoot before the show, she captioned the post "Crazy in love." In another post, she walked in the dress while the song played in the background and in a final post, she joked that she was doing "full choreo in the backyard."

Zendaya completed the look with a sleek low ponytail, purple strappy heels from Stuart Weitzman and yellow diamond earrings from Bulgari.

BET Awards winners: Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B's big reveal; Queen Latifah's emotional acceptance speech

Eighteen years ago, Beyoncé's take on the Versace dress was slightly different: Hers was a cheeky mini-dress, while Zendaya's flowed to her ankles with a thigh-high slit.Beyoncé also chose lime green heels with a chunky necklace.

Zendaya's stylist, Law Roach, confirmed that the new take was also Versace, borrowed from the 2003 archives and first worn during spring/summer fashion week that year.

The throwback look got approval from Beyoncé's mother, Tina Knowles-Lawson: "Love you In This vintage Versace dress !!!" she commented on Instagram. "Beyonce wore one just like it on her first solo performance on the Bet Awards I cut it short 🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️❤️❤️"

And a slew of other stars applauded Zendaya's outfit. She was dubbed a "queen" by Willow Smith, "unreal" and "God's favorite" by Storm Reid and "absolutely incredible" by Donatella Versace.

"My goodness," Chloe Bailey added.

The 2021 BET Awards, hosted at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, came back in full force Sunday night after going virtual last year. Hosted by "Empire" star Taraji P. Henson, the theme was "Year of the Black Woman" and featured four wins for Megan Thee Stallion: best female hip-hop artist, the viewer's choice award for her "Savage" remix featuring Beyoncé, best collaboration and video of the year for "WAP," her collaboration with Cardi B.

Everlane's The Weekend Tiered Dress is cool, comfortable, and an instant summer closet staple - Insider

talu.indah.link

If you buy through our links, we may earn money from affiliate partners. Learn more.

  • You won't want to take Everlane's lightweight cotton Weekend Tiered Dress ($60) off this summer.
  • It's easy to slip on and can be paired with flats for a casual look or heels for an elevated look.
  • You can order the Weekend Tiered Dress in Canvas, Oak, or Black and sizes XXS-XL.

Weekends just got better. With temperatures rising and COVID restrictions lifting, Everlane's Weekend Tiered Dress is right on time for the summer we all need.

You know the kind of dress you can throw on and instantly you feel like you put effort into your appearance without actually putting in the ... effort? This is it. It's a modern, high-quality dress that won't break the bank, and it's ideal for either shooting or catching the breeze.

This dress will help you eliminate "I've got nothing to wear" syndrome for brunch in the city or dinner by the beach. Whether you're going somewhere or nowhere at all, you'll want it in your regular rotation.

Materials

Side by Side of Delesia Watson in Everlane The Weekend Tiered Dress review
Delesia Watson/Insider

If you didn't know, Everlane is known for sourcing only the finest materials. They partner with ethical factories around the world, and take a firm stance against traditional markups. The Weekend Tiered Dress is made of 100% cotton that is lightweight, yet thick. It's soft and flowy, with easy-flowing tiers, but without the fear of sheer(ness).

Fit and Sizing

Here's the thing: it fits where it needs to for this season. Ranging from XXS to XL, It's true to size in the bust and arms area, then has a relaxed and billowy shape through the hem. You can feel flirty and feminine while also disguising your food baby after a weekend of dining out. I'm wearing a size XS and because I'm smaller on top, I could potentially go down to the XXS.

The classic crew neckline allows for a normal bra (because strapless bras are never comfortable for long), while the low back gives it a little edge. You didn't hear it from me, but you could even try wearing it backward for the scoop neck experience. My own heart's desire is a little less fabric at the waist line for more of a flattering side profile, but it certainly gives what it needs to.

It's on the longer side for mid-length and has a delicate, intentional drape. At 5-foot-8, it hits a few inches below the knee, which was perfect for me.

How to style this dress

Ideal for road trips, flights, beach days, and everything in between, you pretty much can't go wrong styling this dress. You can opt for simple, classic accessories for a casual, reserved look, or pair with statement pieces like I did. Flats or sandals give it a more relaxed feel, but a pair of espadrille wedges can elevate it without sending you over the top.

For cool summer nights, a scarf or other light layer adds a touch of elegance. You can even carry it into fall (but not too soon!) with a denim or other light jacket.

Everlane’s Weekend Tiered Dress styled with earrings and a headband.
The Weekend Tiered Dress is ideal for road trips, flights, beach days and everything in between.

The bottom line

The Everlane Weekend Tiered Dress is worth the hype (and that's why it's selling so fast). The dress delivers on both quality and style. The only thing that would make it better is more color options.

Shop online or find a store near you to add this to your summer rotation and thank me later.
