Khloé Kardashian is under fire for allegedly trying to resell a sample dress from designer Christian Cowan. The designer himself called the reality star out on social media but her camp claims she didn't know it was a loaned dress.
As noted by Page Six, Christian shared a screenshot of a dress on Khloé's recent Kardashian Kloset resale listings. "@khloekardashian why are my runway samples I loaned you being sold on your website?” Cowan reportedly wrote on Instagram Stories. "We've emailed 3 times and had no response." Cowan's Instagram story has since been screenshotted and reshared by fashion aficionados all over the net.
The dress in question is a blue midi dress with a generous thigh slit and T-shirt sleeves. Page Six reports that it retails for $1,950. Despite reportedly being a runway sample (meaning that basically, it was free), Khloé had the dress listed for $1,300.
The listing for the Cowan dress has since been removed from her Kloset listing. Launched in late 2019, the Kardashian Kloset is a one-stop location for fans to shop the Kardashian-Jenner clan's used luxury goods, some of which have been worn for notable shoots and appearances.
The Kardashian-Jenner clan had previously auctioned part of their designer wardrobe on platforms like eBay, with part of the profits going to charities like The Buried Alive Project. However, the Kardashian Kloset does not state profits from current reselling go to any charitable actions. The issue with Khloé's dress raises the question regarding where some of the clothes listed come from, and whether or not the family has the right to resell them.
PAPER magazine fashion reporter Mari Abad posted about the dress on Twitter, writing, "If this is happening to Christian Cowan, a celeb-loved designer with a relatively high profile, imagine the number of smaller, indie brands that have to deal with this kind of mess on a regular basis."
According to an "insider" who spoke with Page Six, the dress situation is just a mixup. “The dress was gifted to her through her stylist without a mention of a loan and it was never asked to be returned,” the source said.
