Ariana Grande may not be in New York City on the red carpet at the MTV VMAs, but the singer dressed up from home and shared her look on Instagram. Grande wore a blue Mugler bodysuit and mini skirt with Giuseppe Zanotti white platform heels. Her hair was up in ombré, flipped-out pigtails, and the whole look gave off some serious Baby Spice vibes.
Grande gushed about performing with Lady Gaga in her Instagram caption. (According to Page Six, it was pre-taped in Los Angeles.) "happy VMA day ::) so excited for u see our first rain on me performance tonight ! @ladygaga is fucking incredible and i’m so honored to share this moment with her and u all 🤍 also just want to say thank you to @MTV being so diligent in making this such a safe & healthy experience for all of the performers and crew involved. it’s so greatly appreciated and i can’t imagine how difficult it was to figure out! see u all so soon! 🌧"

This will be Grande and Gaga's first time singing "Rain on Me" together outside of the music video. There's a good chance they will give an acceptance speech together at some point in the evening, too. They are jointly nominated for multiple MTV VMAs: Video of the Year, Best Collaboration, Best Pop Song, Best Cinematography, Best Video Effects, and Best Choreography for "Rain on Me." Grande additionally has a nomination with Justin Bieber for Best Collaboration and Best Music Video from Home (for their song "Stuck With U").
Gaga gushed to Apple Music's Zane Lowe about working with Grande during a May interview.
"She was so wonderful," Gaga said. "I remember I said to her, 'Okay, now, everything that you care about while you sing, I want you to forget it and just sing. And by the way, while you're doing that, I'm going to dance in front of you,' because we had this huge big window… And she was like, 'Oh my God. Oh my God, I can't, I can't. I don't know. Oh my God. Okay, okay.' And then I did it and she sang, and she started to do things with her voice that [were] different. It was the joy of two artists going, 'I see you…' Humans do this. We create things that make us feel comfortable. We put them all around. I do it all the time. We all do things to make ourselves feel safe. And I always challenge artists when I work with them. I go, 'Make it unsafe, make it super fucking unsafe and then do it again.' And it was just awesome to watch her."
