This week, Kate Middleton was part of the Hold Still 2020 judging panel, a committee tasked with curating 100 images from over 30,000 submissions to be featured in a new digital art exhibition. “I wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who has entered and taken part,” the Duchess of Cambridge said in a new Instagram video. “And a big thank you to my fellow judges. I hugely appreciate the time and dedication that they have shown towards the project.” For the video conferencing appearance with her fellow judges, Middleton’s polished royal style was in full effect. She wore a printed floral dress, a signature look of hers. The most surprising detail about the frock? Its very affordable piece, coming in at under $15.
Middleton’s pretty lace-trimmed day dress is from Zara’s spring 2020 collection. It’s currently sold out, but originally retailed for $13 USD (on sale). It’s a shockingly affordable choice for the Duchess, though Middleton does have a history of wearing affordable pieces from labels such as J.Crew and Michael Michael Kors. This latest Zara choice, however, is surely one of her most budget-friendly choices of all time. Considering Middleton’s track record for re-wearing and recycling pieces in her wardrobe, she’s not the kind to treat fast fashion as throwaway—in other words, you can expect that the dress will have a comeback in the near future. And thanks to its classic, timeless design, she has every reason to revive it.
