At present, superfluous, unwearable clothes have no purpose in a closet. The litmus test for investing in new clothes in 2020 judges wearability just as much as aesthetics. Vogue’s Accessories Director, Willow Lindley, said it aptly, “versatility is now, more than ever, my number-one style inspiration.” From shoes to bags to dresses, versatility indeed remains key.
So when JW Anderson and Uniqlo dropped their latest collection from their ongoing collaboration earlier this month, I was inspired and ready to spend. Designer Jonathan Anderson is heralded for his almost innate understanding of the zeitgeist both at his eponymous label and at Loewe. Uniqlo is known for their no-nonsense wardrobe essentials. Pair the two together and you always end up with affordable, must-have pieces that satisfy your wardrobe’s needs.
While cozy knits and scarves were flying off the proverbial shelves, with sizes slashed everytime I refreshed my browser, I was able to get my hands on a crisp, blue and white striped button-down dress that felt absolutely perfect for now. Versatile by nature, this is a true seasonless classic that I’ve since worn in a multitude of ways. At home, I’ve already worn it with a turtleneck layered underneath, as a tunic with the bottom buttons undone and paired with oversized trousers, as a shacket (shirt/jacket) worn entirely unbuttoned with my favorite t-shirts underneath, and even on it’s own with a pair of flat, knee-high chelsea boots. This dress is definitely the foundation for countless outfits now, and many more to come.
Here, shop it before it’s gone.
Jonathan Anderson is a speaker at Vogue’s 2020 Forces of Fashion conference, taking place November 16 and 17. Learn more and buy tickets here.
