The results are in—Etsy has announced the winners of its second annual Etsy Design Awards, also known as the Etsies, with the help of two star judges. Actress, entrepreneur, and Etsy-lover Drew Barrymore joined NBC’s Making It judge and Etsy Trend Expert, Dayna Isom Johnson on the judge's panel for the momentous occasion. While designers had the chance to win in the competition’s 12 categories, we're most interested in the “Wedding” category (for obvious reasons). And this year’s winner is out of this world.
Lithuania-based designer Inge Staylte’s “celestial” dress creation has taken the cake for the Etsies “Wedding” category. The flowing, tulle dress is intricately made and adorned with silver and gold stars, complete with a cascading cape that sweeps the ground. Staylte is known for her boho and made-to-measure creations, which have been popular among customers. This dress in particular has garnered over 600 customer reviews, giving it an overall 5-star rating. Not to mention, it's priced under $1,000 ($888 to be exact) which in the world of wedding dresses is considered a steal.
“Theres no way to possibly find a fault in this dress,” one buyer wrote. “The dress fits like a dream and I couldn't be happier. Dont wait to buy from this shop, the money will be well worth it and the shipping will be unbelievably easy.”
Another user raved, “I was terrified to make such a big purchase from so far away, sight unseen other than photos, & having never tried it on but I am absolutely blown away with how gorgeous the pieces are! Such quality materials & skillful construction!”
The other winners took home prizes in categories that include art; bags, shoes, and accessories; clothing; home and living; jewelry; kids; paper and party; pets; and vintage. We have to give an honorable mention to the winner of the paper and party category, a UK-based graphic designer, for their custom illustrated place cards, personalized for the guests of your wedding or special event. Imagine how much easier it would be for your guests to find their place settings with these cute designs!
The grand prize of $15,000 was awarded to Canadian brothers Adrian and Martinus Pool for their recycled skateboard credenza, and the new-this-year People’s Choice Award was given to Colorado-based seller Dani Barbe for her ombre green gemstone stacking ring.
“All of these incredible independent sellers, from all over the world, create the most amazing items, and with such heart and passion,” Barrymore told Etsy. “I love the personal cards and notes from the sellers and these one-of-a-kind items that are often made at home and sometimes with the whole family involved. I’m so happy to be able to honor this incredibly talented group of entrepreneurs”
Congratulations to the talented designers and happy shopping!
