Hayley Paige, the lovable designer on 'Say Yes to the Dress' has found herself in a sticky situation following a dispute with her former employer JLM Couture. Things turned so ugly that the celebrity wedding gown designer has been banned from using her own name and social accounts.
In December, the 'Say Yes to the Dress' designer took to her Instagram to post an emotional clip of herself revealing that she had quit her role as head designer at JLM Couture over contract negotiations. The designer has reportedly been banned from using her personal Instagram account (@misshayleypaige) which has over 1.1M followers, alongside her other social media accounts such as Tik-Tok and Pinterest, after Joseph Murphy, the chief of JLM Couture, went to court to get an emergency restraining order against her.
In the video, Hayley announced, "It is with a very heavy heart that I announce my resignation as a designer. This decision comes on the heels of a year-and-a-half-long legal battle to negotiate a new contract with bridal design house JLM Couture, one that has resulted in them suing me and convincing a court to grant them temporary control and access over my Instagram account as well as my TikTok and Pinterest. I am being very cautious about how I use my own name right now… According to the temporary ruling I am not even allowed to take down personal photos or conversations or thoughtful captions and if I wish to post or engage on the account I cannot do it without the permission of JLM President Joe Murphy."
She also revealed that JLM is trying to use her name to promote their products despite her not working with them anymore. "What’s more, JLM is demanding the right to permanently use my name in the promotion of their products, even after we’re no longer working together and they’re trying to prevent me from using my own birth name in any business whatsoever indefinitely," shared the designer.
Hayley reportedly signed a contract with JLM Couture in 2011, when she was only 25; without a lawyer. "If anyone tells you that you don’t need to have a lawyer take a look at an agreement or contract please get a lawyer. If that is the only thing you take away from this video I will be happy," advised Hayley. Following the lawsuit, Hayley listed her NYC condo for $2.795M. Scott Francis, a team member of 'Million Dollar Listing' star Ryan Serhant’s real estate brokerage, has the listing.
Thankfully, Hayley is still all set to appear on Discovery+'s upcoming show 'Say Yes to the Dress: In Sickness and in Health', which revolves around planning for a wedding during the pandemic.
'Say Yes to the Dress: In Sickness and in Health' will premiere on January 4, 2021, only on Discovery+.
