How real brides who wore this Amazon wedding dress feel about the gown - New York Post

Something old, something new; something Prime, something blue.

Brides-to-be are saying “yes” to an unexpected dress, as a cut-rate gown from Amazon.com has become the must-have “I do” frock.

“I instantly fell in love with it,” said Whitney Githero, 30. The Castle Rock, Wash., waitress, who got married in a small, pandemic-safe ceremony earlier this month, shelled out $42.99 for the mermaid style, off-the-shoulder lace number from Lalagen.

Thousands of other women have fallen in love, too: The No. 1 best seller in Amazon’s wedding-dress category, the budget gown has more than 3,300 five-star ratings.

“It gives you that curvy look,” Rekel Alamoudi, 37, told The Post. “The dress cinched in my waist, and it’s stretchy in the right places.”

Last March, the Euless, Texas, business owner, had a small wedding, attended by immediate family and one friend, because of COVID-19 restrictions. ”I wore a nice dress that I had. It was just OK,” Alamoudi said. But she ordered the lace-overlay dress for an October photo shoot.

“When I put it on, my husband became teary-eyed,” she recalled. “I looked in the mirror and thought, ‘Oh my God, I look like a bride!’ ”

Alamoudi, who was "on a budget" after spending around $550 on three other gowns for her ceremony and reception, chose the long-sleeved version.

Alamoudi, who was “on a budget” after spending around $550 on three other gowns for her ceremony and reception, chose the long-sleeved version. The body-conscious frock is also available with short sleeves and in nine colors, including pink, red and black.

Several reviews on the site note the slimming effect — “I feel like my arms are really big, but they looked thin in the dress,” Alamoudi said — and others are impressed by the quality for the price.

“[My husband] was actually shocked at how good it fit and the quality of the material for the price that I had paid,” said Katty Greco, 27, a stay-at-home mom from North Carolina. When she got married at the local courthouse in December, she decided to ditch her pricey original gown for what has become the hit of the pandemic wedding season.

“I had an $1,000 dress from David’s Bridal that I bought a few years back,” Greco told The Post. But when lockdowns forced her to simplify her nuptial plans, she felt the need to streamline her outfit, too. “My first dress was a lot bigger than the one from Amazon — it was meant for a big church service and a reception.”

Katty Greco, 27, said her husband was "shocked" at how well the dress fit.

The reviews section on the Lalagen frock’s Amazon product page has even turned into a place for brides (who have referred to the dress as “pure perfection” and “everything”) to crowd-source outfit suggestions about shapewear and accessories.

Women are trading fit recommendations for various body types, as the dress comes in small, medium and large, rather than numbered sizes. Some reviewers suggest putting a petticoat under the frock to add volume, while another warned about the delicate nature of the lace.

“Careful using any belts with anything sharp or metal on them, as it can damage the dress quickly and easily,” warned the bride

Still, Alamoudi says the price makes it worth the risk.

“Once I started clicking and reading reviews,” she recalled, “I figured, ‘For 40 bucks, what do I have to lose?’ ”
