It’s finally time to start dining out, meeting up with friends, and going out in the world, which is so exciting after a year of work from home life and social distancing. Only one problem: your closet, once brimming with fun going-out looks and professional ensembles, is now predominately loungewear. It’s understandable—who wants to wear jeans all day when you’re just sitting on Zoom meetings all day, anyway—but you now might be wondering what you should be wearing out in public after so many months indoors, and if there’s a way to repurpose your lounging favorites for the outside world.
Good news is there are plenty of ways to style your loungewear favorites this summer. Just take a few styling tips from these fashion lovers:
1) Crop Your Oversize Tee

Getty ImagesThat oversize T-shirt you’ve been rocking noon and night looks perfectly fine with a pair of leggings or bike shorts, but a fun way to really jazz things up is to create a cropped effect by tucking the T-shirt’s hem into the band of a sports bra.
2) Elevate Your Nap Dress

Getty ImagesNap dresses (aka long, loose dresses that you can laze around in and even comfortably nap in) from brands like Sleeper and Hill House took off in 2020, as they were the perfect loungewear solution for cottagecore lovers. You can easily take your nap dress out into the world with some simple accessorizing, specifically throwing on a pair of strappy sandals or other heels.
3) Accessorize, Accessorize, Accessorize

I strongly believe that the right accessories can completely transform an outfit. A crop top and pair of biker shorts on their own may scream “yoga time” but with the right add-ons, like oversize sunglasses, edgy combat boots, and gold jewelry, you can make athleisure extra chic.

4) Go Monochrome

Getty ImagesYou know one of the reasons why suits always look so sophisticated? Head-to-toe color. Whether that’s a sleek all-black ensemble or bright hue, matching sets of any type are always going to look stylish, and the same goes for a sweatshirt and sweatpants set. I prefer a cropped sweatshirt and tapered-leg pants for a comfortable outfit that still looks put together.
5) Throw Some Heels On

Getty ImagesOne of my favorite recurring fashion trends is wearing pajama-style clothes out in public. When they’re made of glamorous silk and feature fun details like feather trim, how could you not want to rock them all over town? When in doubt on how exactly you can dress your loungewear up, add some party-ready heels. Bonus points if you throw on some chandelier earrings as well.
6) Add A Coat

Getty ImagesAs mentioned above, matching sweatsuits look great for casual outings. Take things one step further by throwing on an oversize coat and matching with ladylike accessories.
7) Dress Up Your Sandals

Getty ImagesIn our comfort-obsessed attitude to pandemic dressing, ugly-chic sandals and shoes became all the rage. While not everyone will latch onto these shoes, they do look fun when paired with a stylish dress; the fancier, the better.
