From Bey to Z, the BET Awards featured a fashion moment that linked one icon to another.
Actress Zendaya, 24, stepped out Sunday to the award show in a sheer purple dress with neon green stripes that bore a striking resemblance to the Versace one Beyoncé wore to perform for the first time at the BET Awards in 2003. Beyoncé performed "Crazy in Love," her first breakout hit as a solo artist.
Zendaya gave a nod to the performance on Instagram with a series of posts. In one picture from her home photoshoot before the show, she captioned the post "Crazy in love." In another post, she walked in the dress while the song played in the background and in a final post, she joked that she was doing "full choreo in the backyard."
Zendaya completed the look with a sleek low ponytail, purple strappy heels from Stuart Weitzman and yellow diamond earrings from Bulgari.

Eighteen years ago, Beyoncé's take on the Versace dress was slightly different: Hers was a cheeky mini-dress, while Zendaya's flowed to her ankles with a thigh-high slit.Beyoncé also chose lime green heels with a chunky necklace.
Zendaya's stylist, Law Roach, confirmed that the new take was also Versace, borrowed from the 2003 archives and first worn during spring/summer fashion week that year.
The throwback look got approval from Beyoncé's mother, Tina Knowles-Lawson: "Love you In This vintage Versace dress !!!" she commented on Instagram. "Beyonce wore one just like it on her first solo performance on the Bet Awards I cut it short 🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️❤️❤️"
And a slew of other stars applauded Zendaya's outfit. She was dubbed a "queen" by Willow Smith, "unreal" and "God's favorite" by Storm Reid and "absolutely incredible" by Donatella Versace.
"My goodness," Chloe Bailey added.
The 2021 BET Awards, hosted at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, came back in full force Sunday night after going virtual last year. Hosted by "Empire" star Taraji P. Henson, the theme was "Year of the Black Woman" and featured four wins for Megan Thee Stallion: best female hip-hop artist, the viewer's choice award for her "Savage" remix featuring Beyoncé, best collaboration and video of the year for "WAP," her collaboration with Cardi B.
