A slightly cloying portamanteu used to describe a garment that comprises the key constituents of a pair of shorts and a skirt, skorts – not to be confused with culottes – are most commonly worn by female tennis players who want to wear a traditional skirt but don't want to risk bearing their underwear to all and sundry.
Under Prada and Simon's exacting aesthetic aegis, however, this new breed of masculine skort has been interpreted with showing off a lot of leg firmly in mind. It was shown in a range of Prada's classic midcentury-inspired geometric prints, stiff mohair and jerseys in jewel shades.
When it comes to wearing your own skort this summer or next, when Prada's will hit the shops, we'd advise socks and sandals on the bottom, to balance the amount of exposed flesh on show, and a boat-neck long-sleeve sweater on top, per many of the stronger looks shown in the collection, which – incidentally – felt like an extra-leggy step forward from AW21.
