Fashion rental is a fast-growing part of the retail market, with many consumers embracing the more sustainable option of hiring a design for just one day, rather than buying for good – and the same is true for wedding dresses as more and more brides see the benefit of saving money and being more sustainable by renting their wedding gown.
According to fashion rental platform Hurr, searches for bridal rental are on the rise, particularly after this weekend, which saw Boris Johnson's new wife Carrie Symonds rent her wedding gown. The site saw a surge of over 268 per cent of bridal rentals, some booking as far ahead as autumn 2022.
"We have seen a steady and increasing interest in bridal, but the web traffic and booking accelerate notably over the Bank Holiday weekend," Hurr co-founder Victoria Prew said. "As an ideal time for planning, the long weekend gave brides a chance to plan a more sustainable wedding dress option."
Below, we round up six of the best spots where you can rent a wedding dress. Whether you are looking for a traditional bridal gown or a more modern low-key option, there are plenty of ways to do bridal rental in style.
My Wardrobe HQ is a popular fashion rental site with an extensive bridal section, where you can both buy and rent secondhand designs. The company was chosen by Carrie Symonds when she married Boris Johnson over the May Bank Holiday, renting a Christos Costarellos gown for her big day. There are also plenty of other well-known bridal designers available to rent at My Wardrobe HQ, including Monique Lhullier, Galia Lahav and Marchesa.
Rental site Hurr recently launched a bridal edit, one which caters to the modern bride with brands including The Own Studio, Charlie Brear, Georgia Hardinge, The Vampire's Wife, Sleeper and Cecilie Bahnsen.
By Rotation has a great selection of options for brides who want to rent their gown, catering to those who want something classic as well as those who are in the market for something a little different. The app boasts pieces from Jacquemus, Rixo, Rotate, Staud and Victoria Beckham.
Although Rotaro doesn't have a bridal-specific section, there are plenty of amazing options for brides in the selection, including minimal pieces from The Line By K, voluminous designs by Sister Jane and statement frocks by Cecilie Bahnsen.
